“A Question of Scale”
Bekonscot is pleased to offer the second of this year’s popular days specifically for home educated children and their families. The topic for this day will be scale factors and maths activities, involving lots of calculations and application to literary and real life characters and buildings.

Thursday 21st September 10.00am until 4.00pm
Cost:
£7.40 for adults and children, under 4s not attending a workshop are free of charge. Payable at the time of booking.
Includes all day entry to the Model Village, age specific workshop and use of our downloadable worksheets and activity books. An optional train ride is available at a small additional cost which is payable on the day.
Workshops:
10.30am – 11.15am Ages 4-6 yrs High Shrunkham Junction
A guided visit to our new immersive station experience. Imagine yourself shrunk down to the size of the figures at Bekonscot, then take a trip inside one of our railway stations.
11.30am – 12.30pm Age 7-9 yrs The Iron Man
Using Ted Hughes’ book “The Iron Man” as inspiration we discover how big Iron Man would be if he visited Bekonscot. We then make some scale models. If you have read the book before visiting then the workshop will make much more sense to the children!
2.00pm – 3.30pm Age 9+ yrs A Question of Scale
What is a scale factor and why are they so important when designing a model village. A measuring and maths activity to determine how big famous building would be if they featured in Bekonscot, followed by a challenge to build a scale tower out of paper tubes.
How to book
Please use the specific link here to access the booking page and read the following instructions carefully as its not that straight forward due to the limitations of our booking system!
- The date of 21st September will be highlighted in green. You will be presented with 4 available time slots:
10.00am – Adults and Under 4’s (please note that you do not have to arrive at 10am, you can arrive at any time during the day.)
10.30 am – workshop for ages 4-6yrs
11.30am – Workshop for ages 7-9 yrs
2.00pm – Workshop for ages 9+ yrs - Select the 10.00 timeslot to book in all adults and under 4s
Add them to the basket but do not checkout, instead click “Continue Shopping” - Then select a timeslot relating to the appropriate workshop for your age of child(ren)
Add to the basket. If you wish to book a workshop for another age group then click “Continue Shopping” as before and select another timeslot, otherwise go to the checkout. - Check that you have booked a ticket for every person attending on the day. Only go to checkout once all tickets are in your basket.
