Have you ever wondered what happens at Bekonscot during the winter months when we are closed?
It may be quiet around the village without our visitors but the staff here at Bekonscot are being kept busy with a programme of winter cleaning, planning and maintenance. Tall hedges are being trimmed, paths cleaned and the shop and tearoom spruced up ready to welcome you back in February.
As for the models, those that can be moved are stored under cover to protect them from the worst of the weather while they wait to be cleaned and re-painted. With 3000 figures, 1000 animals and hundreds of vehicles – that’s a lot of cleaning! 450m of gauge 1 track as well as the Light Railway track all needs to be checked and maintained along with the rolling stock – large and small.
In the offices new leaflets are being prepared and a programme of special events is being sorted, including our plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June. We are also working on introducing an online shop so that you can purchase all your favourite Bekonscot souvenirs from home.
Our closed season is shorter than usual this year so we have a lot to get through; but we look forward to welcoming our visitors back for our 2022 season from Saturday 12th February. The office is manned Monday to Friday if you have any questions prior to our opening and tickets will be available for booking through our online system from mid January.
