Snow Pictures of Bekonscot - Winter 2009/10

Published on 09 February 2010 by Tim. 15 comments »

With just a few days ‘til reopening (and the prospect of more snow on the way - we’d rather hoped we’d had the lot for this year…) we dug out some photos taken by Chris (one of the engineering team) around Christmas. That is, when the snow almost obliterated us. An inch of snow for you is a foot for us!

We don’t seem to have had much damage from the snow, as all of our delicate models come in for the winter. You’ll see that a number of buildings also have plastic wrappers on them to protect from the worst of the frost. All set now for the reopening this Saturday. Our 81st season… crumbs. Come and see what’s new!

Thanks for the pics they are really lovely; some places look like apine villages and not so different from parts of the uk during the recent snow. Good luck with opening day this weekend, with the current unsettled weather and snow flurries and frost have all the little people been put back ok? I hope so!

Just checking your website and found the lovely snowy photos of Bekonscot. My children and now my grandchildren have always enjoyed our visits and we're really looking forward to coming again soon. Janice

As I was in New Zealand when it snowed (I love snow) I was thrilled to see the snowy pics & won't mind if it's snowing when we come. I also watched the TV documentary & it brought back childhood memories, so I hope my grandchildren will love coming.

Fabulous photographs in the snow, could have had some skiers and sleighs out! Looking forward to bringing children and young adults with special needs to visit again this year, they so love their days in your superb model village.

Would you believe i only found out about tha village 2 weeks ago from the brochue given to my daughter in law by a friend at her work. It looks fantastic especially the railway. It is on the list of must visit places to visit hopefully this year with the grandchildren. PS the web site is smashing.

i am 54 years old now but still remember visiting as a boy and also with my children. have you ever considered opening up at xmas time with the model village all decked out with xmas trees lights and carol singers plus the santa express running cos i think it would be absolutely magical.

I'm now 81, and first visited you when I was 7, my last visit being last week, and it still is a Magical place, and no visitor comes to me in Amersham, without visiting you. I know the problems about winter times, but I agree with another contributor, it would be fantastic if Christmas could be an opening period, weather permitting, then my young visitors could enjoy a Treat after opening their presents. Bekonscot inspired me to have the World's Largest travelling Model Railway on a 60 foot long Lorry, Known as Lullington Model Railway, which I sold to a man in North Wales, sadly I think he went Bankrupt, and I wonder what happened to it?

Saw the stand at the Retirment exhibition at Olympia today. Wonderful website. Better than a lot of commercial sites. We must definitely visit the real thing, if not with our grandchidren, we'll come anyway. it's got to be worth it.
